Bear Creek Winery
Just a short 20-minute drive from downtown Fargo, we offer an escape where you can relax in our beautiful vineyard and golf course with your family and friends and sip delicious, award-winning North Dakota wine.
Our vineyards are organic, and we focus on sustainable practice throughout the winemaking process. Bear Creek is a research winery including grape breeding, trellis evaluation, pruning techniques, cluster thinning, leaf pulling, cover crop options and wine making evaluation. Our venue hosts private events from 1 to 125, and our tasting room is open seasonally.
We specialize in dry blends, both red and white using cold climate hardy grapes that can survive our harsh Northern winters. Our unique hybrid grape varieties are characterized by the cold hardiness of the local ancient river grapes and the excellent fruit qualities of the traditional grapes.
After years of experimentation, we have chosen grapes varieties that are best suited to the wine styles we make. Our grape varieties include Petite Pearl, Crimson Pearl, Verona, Frontenac, Itasca, La Crescent, Frontenac Gris, and Marquette.

History: Bear Creek Winery was built in 2000. In 2003, Rod and Sue Ballinger opened the Bear Creek Winery doors to the public. Ever since, they have been the creators of each wine in every stage of their development. They grow, produce, bottle and serve the wine themselves. Today, the second generation of Ballinger's are working side by side with Sue and Rod, keeping the winery in the family.
Bear Creek is one of the original wineries in the Red River Valley, located in South Fargo. In the beginning, Bear Creek produced mainly fruit wines, but since 2010 we have been sole devoted to exploring cold climate grapes and their capacity to produce fine wine.
