Company History
The North Dakota Lottery was created in 2003, after an amendment to the state’s Constitution was passed allowing the Lottery to conduct multi-state, online games. Tickets for Powerball® went on sale on March 25, 2004, making North Dakota the forty-first state to introduce a lottery, and the twenty-fifth jurisdiction to participate in Powerball. As demand has grown, additional games have been introduced. A portion of every ticket sold is transferred to the state's general fund for the benefit of all North Dakotans. Transfers are also made to the Compulsive Gambling Prevention and Treatment Fund, the Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force Grant Fund, and the State-wide Litigation Pool. Since 2004, the Lottery has transferred over $156 million to these funds. The North Dakota Lottery encourages players to be responsible in the amount of play.
