Penny Rae Robinson Images

Penny Robinson has a passion for the outdoors. Every day, camera in hand, she enjoys capturing images of hidden treasures by taking ordinary walks on familiar paths.  In our busy days, we often overlook the wonders, intricacies and beauty all around us.  Robinson notices the effects of seasonal changes, the passage of light and darkness, the wonder of clouds and stars studding the sky, and how the weather changes her gardens, her city and the surrounding prairie lands.

Many of Robinson’s images are of North Dakota landmarks, such as the BNSF Railroad Bridge, the state capitol building, rural grain elevators, the landscapes of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the International Peace Gardens.  Her favorite time of day is the “golden hour,” when the light of sunrise or sunset transforms these scenes into “thin places,” where heaven comes close to earth, and where we can glimpse aspects of God's wisdom, glory and love in the beauty of the ordinary.

BNSF Railroad Bridge

This is one of many shots I have taken of the BNSF Railroad Bridge over the years. People I have spoken with recently have expressed their sadness that it will soon no longer be a Missouri River landmark.

Breath from the Sky

Prairie grasses sway in the gentle evening breeze at sunset.  Even in the ordinary things, there is inherent beauty.

Dakota Ramblings 2006 Birds of the Northern Plains

A photo calendar featuring some of the types of birds we commonly see in North Dakota.

In our busy days, we often overlook the wonders, intricacies and beauty all around us. These pages can offer pause to observe this beauty.

Birds of the Northern Plains abide in our backyards and neighborhoods, along quiet stream beds and beside the mighty Missouri River. We find our feathered friends present through all seasons, winging their way to their destinations, their bright voices calling and beckoning.

Penny Robinson has a passion for the outdoors. Camera in hand, she enjoys capturing images of hidden treasures, just by taking ordinary walks on familiar paths.

North Dakota State Capitol Building

Graced by a summer full moon, the North Dakota State Capitol shimmers in the early evening.

This photograph was captured in Bismarck's George Bird Rotary Arboretum, a beautiful showcase of North Dakota native prairies, wetlands and woodlands. The arboretum's intrerpretive path is known to be a meeting place between hikers and native birds, such as pheasants, turkeys, ducks and geese.  The fall foliage makes for a colorful contemplative walk in late September through November.

Roller Coaster Hill

Bismarck is surrounded by wonderful rolling hills across grassy prairie and farm lands.  This particular hill is etched in my childhood memories because my father would take my family on evening drives "in the country".  This drive is one I would request, as it reminded me of a huge natural roller coaster.
