The Hometown Radio Group - Live, Local, Hometown Radio. The Hometown Radio Group (102.9 WGO/94-9 the ZOO/SUNNY 101.9) is the ONLY locally owned and operated commercial media company in the Minot area.  We are LOCAL with a full staff who live and work in the community.  Because we believe in being firmly rooted in our community, we created the Buy Local Pledge, the Million Minute Pledge to Community Service, I Helped Rebuild Minot and more. We are dedicated and imbedded in the communities we serve, and we are SO PROUD to be a Pride of Dakota Company!

Company History

Owned by married couple J. Davis and Jean Schempp, the couple purchased SUNNY 101.9 in Bottineau ND in 2002. In 2005 they built two new radio stations (94-9 the ZOO and 102-9 WGO) from the ground up in their hometown of Minot, ND - changing the media landscape in the Minot Region forever.  
The group, which is now known as the Hometown Radio Group, is still owned by J. and Jean and the couple continues to be engaged in the daily operation of the stations. Many of the staff that were on board when the stations were built are STILL with the company today.
