The Central Cass Ag Mechanics and Ag III class taught by Mr. Todd Weinmann was asked by Casselton native, Greg Kempel owner of Maple River Winery to help design the Pride of the Dakota store that has opened in the West Acres Shopping Mall recently.
Students began the process by interviewing Kempel on designing the perfect store to show off the North Dakota based products. After sharing their design and receiving approval they presented the Pride of Dakota store to owner Greg Kempel.
Kempel stated, "I was excited to be able to give the students a real-life situation that was a hands-on learning experience." "This was a Project-Based Learning venture that was transformational for students and me alike. Getting to do something other than worksheets and test taking was a great opportunity and I couldn't be prouder of my students," said Weinmann. Going onto say that allowing the student's work to be displayed publicly, helps relate real-world applications to what they have learned. When students viewed the finished project, they were amazed at how closely it resembled their design.
